Ystwyth Transport, are a community group, who came together in February 2004, in order to deal with transport provision problems in the Ystwyth valley. After meetings with CAVO, Ceredigion Association of Volunteer Organisations, and Community First funding was provided through Communities Futures which enabled transport questionnaire surveys to be sent out in the area along with volunteers posting flyers in public Centers. After this, the committee constituted the group and successfully secured funding from the Ceredigion Future Communities Grant Scheme to pilot a Community Transport Project, which launched on 1st April 05. This site is as a result of the project. The scheme will work in partnership with Pentir Pumlumon and governed by Ystwyth Transport steering group. Close working links have also been developed with the Mid Wales car sharing scheme and Ceredigion Transport Unit from whom a minibus will be ‘leased’ for the pilot.

You can use this site for project information and to join the Ystwyth private car share scheme. The Scheme is part financed by the European Union through Ceredigion Partnership Management board’s Future Communities scheme and the Welsh Assembly Government through the Local Regeneration Fund.

How to Register for Car Sharing

The Ystwyth Transport group have established a private car share user group, which is only open to those in the Ystwyth area. This has been set up in order to help people in the local area car share, with extra peace of mind and have an increased opportunity of finding a local match.

Car sharing is when two or more people share a car and travel together. It allows people to benefit from the convenience of the car, whilst alleviating the associated problems of congestion and pollution.

Registering a journey through Ystwyth private group means that you will only be car sharing with people from the Ystwyth area and any journey and personal details will only be shared amongst this restricted group. However as a member of the Ystwyth private group you can chose whether to search for journey matches from the Mid Wales car sharing scheme, Mid Wales group or from the U.K national database. It's your choice!

Joining the Ystwyth private scheme is simple and completely FREE, if you live in the local area. All you need to do is contact Pentir Pumlumon and they will take you through the registration process after ensuring you live in the catchment area. If you are in the area, Pentir Pumlumon will register for you and then you will be sent your own password via your e-mail address. Please keep a note of your own password, as you will need it for future entry to the site. Once you have registered your journey and submitted the information the site will search the database for possible matches and give you the details of other people going your way. If you do not have access to the internet in order to use this service for future journey searches or if you do not have an e-mail address, then Pentir Pumlumon will enter in your new journey searches and deal with the e-mail for you.

Outside of Pentir Pumlumon Opening hours, please leave the staff a message with your contact details for them to get back to you or join the Mid Wales car sharing scheme until opening hours.

You, or PENTIR PUMLUMON on your behalf, can contact any suitable travelling companions via their e-mail (this ensures members privacy) and arrange to meet them at a collection point that suits you both. Make sure you both bring I.D. so you both know you're meeting the right person.

Journeys that the local minibus will be making will also be posted on the journey match site, so you can search for or find out if the minibus is making the same journey as you. (Alternatively contact Pentir)
